The importance of local school boards
School boards are in place to bring local control to schools. They oversee curriculum decision's and are ideally receptive to hear from parents. Rachelle Price, Rocklin Unified School Board Member will explain the importance of attending meetings, joining committees, and giving parental input. She emphasizes the importance of voting for school board members that represent your values, and even running for school board yourself.
Charter schools, the benefits and challenges
Charter schools are public schools, that follow state curriculum guidelines, but choose their own curriculum. California already has a large number of charter schools. However, many students are still on waiting lists. Charter schools are facing several challenges in expanding. Find out about the opposition of CA Teacher’s Union, the legislative opposition to expanding more charter schools, and the challenges of finding suitable locations.
